Proteins are the building blocks for muscle development and maintenance. They are not only of importance for the regeneration of muscles but give the body its defining features: skin, muscles, nails, bones, ligaments and many other organic structures. Even enzymes and most hormones are protein-based. Multiple amino acids join together to form long chains which are then folded into proteins. Amino acids are either non-essential, conditionally essential or essential. The latter cannot be synthesised by our body and have to be obtained from the diet.
